Starting in May, jobseekers need to apply for four jobs each month

At the start of May, a change in the law on unemployed jobseekers’ obligation to apply for work came into effect. With the change, the frequency of contact from the TE Office should also increase. As a result of the changed law, waiting periods became shorter and the three-month waiting period is abolished altogether.

The new law is known as the Nordic labour market service model and new customer service model. The changes entered into force on 2 May 2022. The new law requires unemployed jobseekers to apply for at least four jobs per month. Jobseekers must report their job search progress in the TE Office’s online service at agreed intervals.

The new law also changed the waiting periods, during which no unemployment allowance is paid. In most cases, the 90-day waiting period has been abolished, and the longest waiting period is 45 days.
