Membership in the unemployment fund is worthwhile, because the earnings-related benefit for someone who becomes unemployed after full-time employment is significantly higher than the fixed-rate basic unemployment allowance or labor market subsidy paid by Kela!

What to do if you become unemployed

Becoming unemployed can make it feel overwhelming to take care of all the necessary steps, rules, and requirements. As a member of the Super Unemployment Fund, you will always receive professional and friendly assistance through Nettikassa and the telephone service.

  1. Register as a jobseeker

Register as a jobseeker through the public employment authority’s online service — Työmarkkinatori.

Earnings-related daily allowance can only be paid for periods during which your jobseeker status is valid. Therefore, it is important to register either in advance or no later than on your first day of unemployment.

  2. Prepare your attachments

Gathering the required attachments might feel tedious, but it’s worth doing right away.
You can check here which documents and attachments you should prepare in advance.

  3. Order a tax card
Request a tax card for benefits from the Finnish Tax Administration (Verohallinto) to ensure the correct tax rate is applied. You can send the tax card directly from OmaVero to the fund. Read more about taxation of benefits.
  4. Apply for earnings-related daily allowance
