Sotekassa and Super työttömyykassa are negotiating a merger to form a joint fund for the social and health care sector
The merger will be finalized in summer 2026.
The Unemployment Fund of Social and Healthcare workers (Sotekassa) and the Super Unemployment Fund have started merger negotiations. The boards of both funds have decided to begin the talks in their respective meetings.
The merger will be finalized in summer 2026.
“If the merger is approved in the general meetings of both funds in June 2026, the Super Unemployment Fund will merge into Sotekassa in January 2027,” says Matti Romakkaniemi, Managing Director of the Super Unemployment Fund.
“Our goal is to offer employees in the social and health care sector one large unemployment fund dedicated to their field. The extensive legislative changes and digitalization within the sector bring challenges that can be addressed more effectively with a larger fund. A bigger fund also has better resources to provide its members with high-quality and comprehensive services,” says Markus Rantanen, Managing Director of Sotekassa.
The Merger Negotiations Will Not Affect Memberships or Cooperation with Trade Unions
The ongoing negotiations will not affect the operations of trade unions that cooperate with the funds. The unions will continue their activities as before.
The new unemployment fund for the social and health care sector would become a significant player in the field, with over 190,000 professionals as members.
Memberships will remain unchanged, and the merger will not affect members’ unemployment benefits or payments.
