The Finnish Parliament has decided to introduce a temporary legislative change concerning the waiting period
In the temporary legislative change, the Parliament has decided that the payment of earnings-related allowance begins on the first day of unemployment without a five-day unpaid waiting period. The legislative change is valid from 01 January 2022 to 28 February 2022. If the first day of the waiting period falls between 01.01.2022 and 28.02.2022, the payment of earnings-related allowance will begin without a five-day unpaid waiting period.
The legislative change entered into force retroactively on 31.01.2022. If you have a waiting period, the first day of which falls between 01.01.2022 and 28.02.2022 your application will be corrected and you will receive an additional payment for the waiting period. This does not require you to take any action, but the unemployment fund will automatically correct the decisions.
You should note that the change does not apply to situations where the waiting period has already started in December or earlier, even if part of the waiting period is set for January or February. Similarly, unemployment benefit for the waiting period can also be paid in or after March, as long as the first day of the waiting period was in February.
